Stroke & Hemiplegia Support at a glance
Acupuncture is used in many countries as a supportive therapy during stroke and hemiplegia rehabilitation. Alongside neurologist care and physiotherapy, gentle needling may help with muscle stiffness, circulation, pain and overall wellbeing. It does not replace emergency or medical treatment, and we coordinate with the patient's family and doctors before starting.
Important: if you notice sudden face drooping, arm weakness or difficulty speaking, call emergency services (108) immediately. Acupuncture is only considered after a patient is medically stable.
How acupuncture supports rehabilitation
After a stroke, recovery depends on medical treatment, physiotherapy and time. Acupuncture is used by some patients as an additional support to help with muscle stiffness and spasticity, circulation in the affected limbs, pain, sleep and mood.
What to expect
We begin by understanding the medical history, current medicines and physiotherapy plan, and we involve the family in planning. Sessions are gentle and adjusted to the patient's comfort and mobility. Progress is reviewed regularly together with the family.
Facial palsy
Acupuncture is also used as supportive care for facial palsy, such as Bell's palsy, after medical assessment.

Stroke & Hemiplegia Support: frequently asked questions
When can acupuncture start after a stroke?
Only after the patient is medically stable and the treating doctor agrees. We ask for medical reports before starting.
Can acupuncture replace physiotherapy?
No. Physiotherapy is essential in stroke recovery. Acupuncture is used alongside it as supportive care.
How many sessions are needed?
Stroke rehabilitation is long-term. We usually plan in blocks of ten sessions and review progress with the family.
Is acupuncture safe for stroke patients?
With a trained practitioner, sterile needles and medical clearance, acupuncture is generally well tolerated. We take extra care with patients on blood thinners.
Results vary from person to person. Session numbers and timelines are typical guides that we confirm at your consultation. Acupuncture and wellness therapies complement, and do not replace, care from your doctor. Read our medical disclaimer.
